Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
Each day we were given talks on a variety of topics, including the legal work at DLA Piper and the emphasis the firm places on sustainability, diversity and pro bono work. There were interactive sessions such as a litigation simulation, a 'radical change' workshop and an interactive trainee panel session. Opportunities to network with peers and DLA Piper's legal and non-legal employees were provided through tea breaks, a drinks evening and an external dinner.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
The programme allowed me to gain knowledge on what life in DLA Piper is like. Through networking with trainees, partners and non-legal employees, I got a sense of the welcoming, open and inclusive environment at DLA Piper. Being provided with examples of some of the deals, transactions and cases that DLA Piper has been involved with allowed me to appreciate the high-quality, thought-provoking and diverse work that DLA Piper engages with on a daily basis.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
From the first day of the programme, I could sense the welcoming environment at the firm. The culture is inclusive, collaborative and there is a clear sense of respect amongst all employees. Through the various networking opportunities, I could see how optimistic the firm is for its future. Everyone in the workplace is listened to, cared for and provided with any opportunity they would like to develop their legal, commercial and personal skills.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight programme. The organisation and structure of the programme was remarkable and each attendee was kept busy from day one. I enjoyed networking with my peers from universities around the UK and beyond. I developed a skill set that will undoubtedly be of use to me on both an academic and personal level. Most importantly, I gained a depth of knowledge regarding the culture, values and legal work at DLA Piper.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to DLA Piper
Be yourself and be honest in the online application and the telephone interview. Make sure you put time, effort and thought into the commercial awareness question, and pick a topic that genuinely interests you. Be well prepared for the interview and make the most of its short duration.
