Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
On a day to day basis, we engaged in extremely insightful discussions about different areas of commercial law, attended networking sessions with the cohort of students, and learnt about the culture of the firm.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
As there were sessions specifically dedicated to the business, such as the "demystifying the law" session, and sessions dedicated to explaining the jobs available in commercial law, I left with a greater understanding about the opportunities available at both DLA Piper and within commercial law more widely.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
A huge skill that I learnt during this programme was networking. As the cohort size was 100 students, this meant that the programme involved a lot of socialising and learning from one another. Not only was beneficial as I was able to learn from the other students about their experiences navigating applications and university pressure, but also enabled me to develop my ability to work with others in a team, as one would in a firm.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture and general atmosphere was incredibly collaborative. Despite the firm hierarchy, I found that people were able to engage with one another very naturally and that there was a sense of learning from one another.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
The insight programme was extremely enjoyable, providing me with an insight into the work undertaken as a commercial lawyer, networking opportunities with other students, and a chance to further my knowledge about certain topics in the industry.

I would emphasise the importance of the CV part of the application process, as it was paramount to getting a place on the programme. I would also emphasise reviewing the reasons for why you want to consider commercial law as a career.
