Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.

We attended interactive talks and panels with people from the Global Banking and Markets business. This was for us to learn as much as possible about the finance industry. We then picked a business area and completed some work shadowing.

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?

It was brilliant. I now have a much clearer idea on how the skills used vary between the different divisions. This allowed me to pick the division that I will enjoy the most.

I have learnt how an investment bank is structured and how the work varies between the different divisions. I also learnt about some basic financial concepts. I also learnt lots about networking.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Brilliant. It felt that they really are pushing to hire a diverse and young group of employees in order to get a fresh range of views and ideas to help bring HSBC forward.
