Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

As a Global Network Banking (GNB) intern, I supported the team on live credit and client work, including renewals, new money proposals, credit-risk ratings (CRRs), covenants and management information (MI). Day-to-day I helped progress work through key systems, and prepared analysis such as financial spreads and credit reports.
I also joined meetings and collaborated across product partners to understand client needs and translate them into clear credit applications and action.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes—my responsibility increased quickly from shadowing to owning end-to-end tasks, including managing daily credit queues for three Relationship Managers and progressing approvals/escalations where needed.
I took ownership during colleague leave, completing the full cycle of raising spreads/credit reports and delivering several renewals to keep pod work moving.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I’ve built a strong working understanding of GNB London credit workflows, and developed my analysis and computational thinking by getting comfortable with more technical processes. I’ve also strengthened my learning agility and self-awareness by actively seeking feedback, asking more targeted questions, and using mistakes as a way to improve. On top of that, I’ve developed my communication, resilience and relationship management through stakeholder engagement across teams and project work.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I received incredible support and guidance throughout my placement, especially from my Early Careers development leads, who were instrumental from day one in helping me settle in, set goals and keep progressing. Alongside that, the Early Careers support was consistently strong, I always knew where to go for advice and felt encouraged to ask questions and learn. On the desk, the wider team was also really supportive and approachable, which made it easy to get quick guidance, build confidence and take on more responsibility over time.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I genuinely loved my placement and can say the entire 10 weeks were incredible from start to finish. I enjoyed that the work was real and meaningful, I wasn’t just observing, I was learning how things actually move in GNB day-to-day and gradually taking on more responsibility as my confidence grew. That steady progression made the experience feel challenging in the right way, and really rewarding when I could deliver outputs independently. I also really enjoyed the people side of the internship. The team culture was supportive and collaborative, and I always felt comfortable asking questions, getting feedback and learning from others. Being able to work with different stakeholders and product areas also kept things interesting and helped me understand how the wider bank fits together. I have loved my experience here, and I would love to return.
