Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
It was a 3-day insight scheme and the first two days consisted of talks to different practice areas at the firm as well as Q&A sessions. The final day was a chance for each student to shadow an associate for the day.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was really useful to understand all the roles available at the firm, particularly the discussion about the Tactical Opportunities team which I found fascinating.

Yes, this insight scheme has allowed me to further develop my communication skills when networking with trainees, associates and partners as well as fellow students in my cohort.
In addition, it has enabled me to learn more about the firm and its culture as well as the key practice areas and quality of work.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture was really warm and welcoming which allowed me to ask questions and talk to people without any fear or anxiety. Everyone at the firm cared a lot about their work but also engaged in topics outside of work which was so refreshing!

I really enjoyed the insight scheme due to the balance of networking opportunities, Q&A sessions, information about key practice areas as well as the socials and the amazing food!

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Latham & Watkins
I would advise anyone applying to Latham to ensure that they talk about all the experience that they have had, whether it's legal or non-legal to show off the transferable skills they have learnt from it.
In addition, I would encourage each applicant to not be fearful of showing their personality. The firm is looking to highlight humans not robots so make sure that you can talk about interests and hobbies outside of the law as much as the law itself!
