Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Latham & Watkins?

My experience at Latham & Watkins has been very rewarding. From an early stage, trainees are given a high level of responsibility and are trusted to contribute meaningfully to complex matters, often involving cross-border issues and high-profile transactions. At the same time, there is a strong support network, with supervisors and colleagues who are invested in trainee development and willing to provide guidance and feedback. The work is rigorous and fast-paced, making it a valuable learning experience.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

The trainee role is highly varied. My responsibilities have included conducting legal research, drafting client-facing documents, reviewing contracts and transaction materials, preparing regulatory filings, coordinating with local counsel in multiple jurisdictions, attending client calls, taking detailed notes, managing trackers and timelines, and supporting the overall project management of transactions. The aspect I enjoy most is being involved in the substance of matters from an early stage. Rather than observing from the sidelines, trainees are encouraged to take ownership of discrete workstreams and contribute to solving real client problems.
