Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

As a Business Services Trainee in Associate Recruiting, I support both the Lateral and Graduate Recruitment teams across a wide range of recruitment and onboarding activities. My day-to-day responsibilities include coordinating interviews, supporting candidate screening and assessment processes, organising onboarding and induction activities, managing work shadowing placements, maintaining recruitment systems, and liaising with candidates, agencies, students, and internal stakeholders to ensure recruitment processes run smoothly and provide a positive experience for everyone involved.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I was given a significant amount of responsibility throughout my placement. From an early stage, I was trusted to manage my own workload and take ownership of key recruitment processes, including coordinating interviews, supporting onboarding, organising work experience placements, and acting as a point of contact for candidates, agencies, students, and internal stakeholders.

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement. I enjoyed both the firm and my team, and found the role engaging and varied. Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Latham & Watkins to a friend?

Yes

What advice would you give to others applying to Latham & Watkins

My advice would be to be specific about why you want to work at Latham & Watkins and what attracts you to the role, rather than relying on generic answers. For applicants to the Business Services Trainee programme in particular, it is important to have a genuine interest in the business side of a law firm and the opportunity to support its operations, rather than viewing it simply as a route into a legal career. Demonstrating enthusiasm for the role itself and an understanding of how business services teams contribute to the firm's success will help you stand out.
