Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Latham & Watkins?

Latham & Watkins is an excellent firm that combines high-quality formal training with strong on-the-job learning opportunities. From the outset, trainees are entrusted with meaningful responsibility and are treated as valued members of the team whose views and contributions are respected. The firm fosters a supportive learning environment, with senior lawyers willing to invest time in providing feedback, discussing comments, and sharing practical insights to support trainees' development.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

I particularly enjoyed the level of responsibility I was given. This included drafting emails to opposing counsel, clients and colleagues across the Latham network, taking the first pass at collating and actioning comments on documents, drafting ancillary documents such as board resolutions and settlement agreements, preparing and circulating call notes, maintaining workstream trackers and document lists, and assisting with signing processes.
I also enjoyed managing discrete workstreams, particularly within due diligence exercises. This involved coordinating with specialist teams and local counsel, raising and tracking DDQs, following up on responses, and helping drive the process forward. Being trusted to take ownership of these workstreams provided valuable exposure to both the legal and project management aspects of transactions.
