Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.

The three days consisted of various talks from people at all levels of DLA Piper, with different backgrounds and journeys into the legal sector. There are lots of breaks and breakfast/lunch opportunities at the office to encourage networking among the group.

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?

The Insight Scheme was really effective in revealing all the different routes into law which are available, both for Law and Non-law students. The Early Careers team were really good at explaining all the different opportunities for trainees at the firm.
We also heard presentations from lots of staff who support DLA Piper's lawyers and values - such as their Diversity & Inclusion team and the Leaders of their various support groups for LGBT+ and parenthood.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I think this Insight Scheme improved my networking skills, giving me ample opportunity to get to know my peer group in a relaxed environment. The scheme's Litigation Simulation showed me the importance of consuming a large amount of information, prioritising key facts and communicating clearly and concisely these to others. DLA Piper also encouraged us consistently to think outside the box, particularly surrounding the topic of technology within the legal sector.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company culture seemed really inclusive, open and friendly. All the trainees were really welcoming and honest about their experience at DLA Piper. Everybody treated us with respect and seemed really team-orientated.
