Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The insight week consisted mainly of presentation held by bp staff which helped us learn more about the company. This included talks from people in business resource groups to learn more about steps bp are taking towards diveristy and inclusion, to talks from engineers etc to learn more about the variety of roles available. We also heard from senior staff about the direction the company is taking towards reimagining energy. They were open to criticism and questions and answered them honestly.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was very enlightening to hear about all the roles. As the insight week was held online this year, all the different stream were combined into one e.g. trading and shipping were with the female discovery week etc which meant that we gained an even wider perspective about roles available at bp that we otherwise may not have been even aware of. For me personally I appreciated the combination of the different discovery weeks into one big cohort as I could learn more about the different roles.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I learnt a lot about the energy sector and the direction it is taking in the future. We had to present about one of the job sectors we were taught about at the end of the week which taught me a lot of skills such as communication and how to be engaging. We were given talks by people whose job is to present, which I found useful as they provided some useful tips. I also learnt how to network efficiently through learning from my peers.

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight
4/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
All the employees at the company that we spoke to were very open to answering any questions we had, including any criticism they faced. They were also very willing to answer any further questions we had through sharing their contact details and/or connecting on linkedin. The general company culture did seem a lot more formal than I expected, nonetheless everyone was very warm and welcoming. It seemed like a very competitive environment to work in.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight. I had the opportunity to hear from a range of proffessionals who worked in different sectors of the business. It was a lot more interactive than I expected it to be. I especially enjoyed the guest speakers, as it was refereshing to hear from someone who does not work in that specific corportate enviroment, it was a nice break from networking. I also enjoyed the group work as it was a good way to get to know other attendants.

Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to bp
Make sure you do the video interview, they provide a lot of help with how to do it. The invitation for the video interview will come months later for some (me) so do not be disheartened if you do not recieve an invitation instantly. The video interview questions are quire generic, there aren't many bp specific questions but do prepare in case there are. It is important to have questions to ask the employees.
