Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
1. Surveying Equipment Oversight: Keeping the surveying equipment in good working order was a major part of my job. To guarantee constant accuracy and proper alignment, this necessitated routinely checking and calibrating devices like spinning lasers and total stations. In order to provide accurate measurements and enable the precise setting out of building work, these instruments needed to be properly maintained.
2. Setting Out and Levelling: One of the most important parts of my job was accurately determining the positions and levels of important construction tasks, such as drainage, formwork, and excavation. High precision and close adherence to industry standards and safety procedures were necessary for these operations. Correct execution of this job was essential for establishing a solid basis for later construction phases, promoting overall project efficiency, and guaranteeing continuously high-quality results.
3. Quality Assurance: By creating and executing thorough inspection checklists, I helped to preserve the project's excellent quality. These were used to evaluate important construction components, such as precast and in situ concrete works and structural steel reinforcement. I was able to find and fix problems quickly due to regular quality monitoring, which helped the project stay on track and maintain the necessary standards.
Also, my responsibilities include:
Assisting with project documentation and reporting.
Supporting site operations and planning activities.
Reviewing drawings and technical information.
Attending meetings and gaining experience in project coordination.
Ensuring health and safety procedures are followed.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
An important turning point in my career was my work as a site engineer on the Eastern Green Link 2 (EGL2) Wren Hall Converter Station project and the larger EGL2 program. It reaffirmed the importance of technical precision, well-coordinated collaboration, and a solid foundation in fundamental civil engineering concepts.
I contributed to the effective and successful completion of a project of significant scope and complexity by working with a dedicated and highly competent project team. This placement year significantly expanded my technical expertise and practical skills, strengthening my comprehension of how practical experience influences efficient infrastructure construction.
