Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Day to day I will shadow other technicians and learn from them, we do placements around site so we get to see a lot of what goes on. At the moment I am on the packing lines, which exposes me to a lot of different aspects of engineering each day, e.g. Electrical, mechanical and instrumental

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I like the culture at AZ, I think that it is good for someone coming into their first job as everyone is forgiving if you make a mistake and the people are happy to explain anything to you if you have a question

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learned a lot since I started in 2024, I can be sent out on my own to have a look at a problem on one of the lines and come up with possible causes and think of viable solutions. Also, I feel as my communication skills have been developed from being put into teams of new people every few months

I know where I am going to be each day and can always reach out to my manager or technician if I have a question

Emails are constantly sent out about apprentice support and teams can be used to quickly get in touch with someone

I am at Crewe college at the moment, and we have a teams chat with the tutors which I am able to contact them on

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The course is relevant to the apprenticeship, and in the first year we did a practical day every week for using hand tools, this was good as it was a refresher of the skills I learned in sixth form
