Chemical Engineering Summer Student Review

I undertook a lab-based project over the course of the summer. My responsibilities included conducting experiments in the lab, data analysis of my results, process modelling, and communicating my findings to relevant audiences across the department.

A large proportion of my assignments required me to work independently, so I was given a lot of responsibility during my internship. It was up to me to manage my time and complete deliverables promptly; I was provided with a lot of support with my work, but it was up to me to be proactive and ask for help when needed.

I've grown a lot during my internship, vastly improving transferrable skills such as time management and scientific communication. I also learnt how to use numerous pieces of equipment in the lab and critically analyse real-world data, as well as modelling software which I was previously unfamiliar with. I also developed my leadership capabilities through presentations to co-workers and providing training on lab equipment to my peers.

I received an abundance of support and guidance not only from my supervisor and manager but also from employees across the department, who were not directly associated with my project but always happy to help.

Very friendly and inclusive. Integration of new workers into the office was a straightforward process and i felt very welcome from day 1.
