Summer Placement Engineer Review

Worked as an assistant site engineer during the construction works of an onshore substation for an offshore windfarm. Assisted with quality checks of works, setting out and improving the overall data management and progress tracking systems on site

I was allowed to set things out by myself, and was the main person responsible for updating various progress trackers and monitoring the progress of works across the site before transferring this information to the rest of the team

I developed my surveying and setting out skills, learnt how to write permits, started learning how to write RAMS, learnt what quality checks are necessary in construction projects and how to carry these out

I received significant guidance throughout my placement, there was always someone willing to answer my questions and help out whenever I needed. I felt supported enough to try and complete works by myself and just to ask for clarification when needed

the general culture was very friendly and helpful, I didn't feel nervous walking in to the office and everyone was friendly and willing to answer my questions or help me with whatever I needed. Lots of social opportunities and activities were provided which was nice as we were working away from home

I really enjoyed my placement, I had many opportunities to develop current skills and and learn new ones. I was also given the chance to shape my own placement and complete activities that would benefit my development the most
