Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I collaborated with team members to contribute to an cost improvement and transformation project. This involved quantitative analysis using Excel, qualitative research into innovative solutions to client problems and delivering findings to clients and colleagues. I also worked on an internal project developing Social Value resources. Networking was a key part of my experience and I spoke to many colleagues from across the company.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I took ownership of a large workforce analysis piece, and independently conducted quantitative analysis and qualitative research. I visited client site and was entrusted to complete a time and motion study only accompanied by one other team member. The work I completed was reviewed by colleagues where necessary but was overwhelmingly trusted.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

My networking skills have improved immensely, and I feel much more confident interacting with colleagues from different ranks across the company. I have also improved my technical skills by undertaking courses available to me through LinkedIn Learning. By working in a small team in a professional setting, I have also developed my teamwork skills by applying existing skills to a new consulting environment.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I felt very well supported, with a formal buddy and line manager assigned to me before I arrived. However, this was only the beginning of the wider support network, as everyone I encountered was friendly and willing to assist in any way they could.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The standout feature of PA's culture is its inclusivity and friendliness. The office felt sociable, non-judgemental and everyone was so willing to engage with new people and lend a hand where they could.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I thoroughly enjoyed my internship, which provided me with an invaluable insight into the consulting industry and made me feel like a highly valued member of the company. I developed a wide range of skills, from technical expertise to teamwork and written and verbal communication, while gaining a deeper understanding of both the consulting industry and the diverse sectors it serves.
