Summer Intern Review

As a summer intern I was given one group project to work on with other interns for the 8 weeks, making up 60% of our time. The other 40% I spent shadowing other professionals at the company, getting involved in bid-writing and a project in the energy field.

I was trusted to contribute towards projects of national significance, and to update datasets that were worked on by people at all levels both within and outside of the company. I was treated like a junior but equal member of the team on all the projects I worked on.

I developed my excel skills, learned how bids are written and contributed to a social value proposition in one of them. I also learned more broadly how consulting projects tend to run from start to finish. I also developed skills in networking, learning how best to make use of short conversations with senior people to keep them engaged and gain as much as I could from brief interactions.

I received a lot of support from the early careers team, my mentor, and my line manager and never felt like I couldn't or it wasn't appropriate to ask for help.

The company culture was great! Everyone was very friendly and open to conversation, and I got to speak to a lot of senior people and partners as a result of this. Most people I spoke to gave me more names of people to speak to in order to broaden my network.

I really enjoyed it. I really liked that we got some free rein to explore opportunities ourselves, and to some extent choose which projects we worked on.
