Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Transport for London?

My overall experience at TfL has been very positive. The graduate scheme has given me the opportunity to work across different areas of Procurement and Commercial and gain exposure to a wide range of projects. I particularly value the rotational structure as each placement allows me to develop different commercial skills and work with different teams and stakeholders. I have also found TfL to be a very supportive environment for learning and professional development, particularly through the opportunity to work towards my CIPS qualification alongside my role. It is rewarding to know that the projects I work on contribute to London's transport network.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

My responsibilities vary depending on the placement. In my first placement within Rolling Stock, I supported procurement activities including sourcing, obtaining and evaluating supplier quotations, preparing procurement documentation, engaging with suppliers and supporting contract award and purchase order processes. I worked on sourcing project relating to fleet and depot maintenance, which gave me practical experience of the end to end procurement process.
In my current Highways placement, my work is more contract and commercial management focused. I support infrastructure projects under NEC contracts, including reviewing supplier pricing, managing commercial documentations, supporting payment processes and working with project managers and suppliers.
what I enjoy the most is the variety of the role and being able to work on real projects while continuously learning. I particularly enjoy understanding the commercial side of projects, working with different stakeholders and seeing how procurement and contract management contribute to TfL's wider operations.
