Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I did a 3 day teaching assistant placement. I would help students on a 1-1 basis. The teachers would support you and give you advice. I would do daily reading with students and got to be involved with lots of different subjects as I was working in a primary school for this placement

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I got to do some marking for some of the students work and was responsible for a table of students, making sure they felt supported and like they could rely on me for help if needed.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

How to help young people understand their subjects, occaisonally using my creative skills to explain certain tasks. For alot of the students I taught, english was their second language so being able to explain things creatively, whether that was using pictures ect, it helped me learn how to explain answers for students. I also learnt that primary school is a very fast paced environment.

Lots of support and preparation. Through online talks, and in-person talks. We had the support of eachother while on placement too.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Fast-paced, supportive, fun. Inclusive of everyone and the school felt very welcoming. A place where the students felt they could ask questions, be curious.
