Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

My job role involves supporting the IT project managers in handling their administrative task while also raising purchase orders and receipting them within the project's budget. I also worked a lot with the Microsoft 365 tools and one of the key part of my jobs involved a lot of business process automation and workflow optimisation and this was achieved using power automate which I used frequently to design flows and trigger them for cutting out on routine tasks which was becoming tedious for many of the project managers, contract manager as well as personally for myself. Designing Gantt Charts and reviewing financial and project management documents such as portfolio reporting, deliverable trackers were a core part of my job.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

A lot that I have decided that if given the opportunity I would love to work for Matalan as an IT Project Manager. I really loved the ideas being discussed around, the way how everyone solves problems and how each team co-ordinates with each other has been a fruitful experience

What advice would you give to others applying to Matalan

Just make sure to discuss your ideas, your previous experience and how they co-relate to Matalan's value and give them stats and data as much as you can. Make sure to build good connections within your team as well as from other departments. Get to know the business as much as you can and never hesitate to ask anyone around as everyone is comfortable with you not knowing something and everyone's is happy to help you around.
