Qualitative Research Assistant Review

In this role, I supported a lecturer on a research project exploring the experiences of disabled women in the workplace by reviewing relevant academic literature, analysing open-text survey responses using thematic analysis to identify themes and develop a coding framework, and producing clear written findings, including a concise briefing document with recommendations for policymakers and organisations.

During my internship, I was provided with a clear framework and supportive guidance to help me understand the research process. Once I had been introduced to the methods and given access to the data, I worked independently on the majority of my tasks, so I was given meaningful responsibility throughout my placement.

I worked alongside a lecturer who supported me throughout my placement and was always available if I needed extra guidance or had any questions.

I worked solely with one individual, and my placement was based within the university itself, so it’s difficult to comment on a wider company culture. However, I had a genuinely positive experience working with my lecturer, who created a supportive and encouraging environment throughout my internship.

I really enjoyed my internship. I was able to work at my own pace from home thanks to the remote work options, which made the experience flexible and manageable. Throughout the internship, I developed valuable skills that will support my future career journey. The lecturer was incredibly kind, supportive, and consistently available whenever I needed guidance, which made the whole experience even more positive.
