Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
A key part of my role was contacting and qualifying prospective tenants to understand their property requirements, including their preferred location, budget, move in date and other key criteria. I would then identify suitable properties, arrange viewings and, as my placement progressed, conduct property viewings with applicants.
I was also responsible for contacting live applicants on the system to establish whether they were still actively searching for a property. This helped ensure that applicant records remained accurate and up to date, while also identifying potential opportunities for the lettings team.
Alongside applicant facing responsibilities, I supported the pre tenancy process by assisting with checks required before a tenancy could progress. I also carried out practical office duties such as tagging and de-tagging property keys and ensuring key records were correctly maintained.
Overall, the role gave me practical exposure to the full lettings process, from initial applicant qualification and property matching through to viewings and pre tenancy administration, while developing my communication, organisation and client facing skills.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I also developed greater charisma, charm and confidence when interacting with people. In lettings, I learnt that building rapport quickly and making applicants feel comfortable can be just as important as having strong knowledge of the property itself. Conducting viewings particularly helped me improve my ability to engage with clients naturally, understand their needs, answer questions and present a property in an enthusiastic but professional manner.
My telephone communication and sales skills also improved considerably through regularly calling and qualifying applicants. I became more confident asking the right questions, identifying genuine requirements, handling different responses and converting conversations into viewings where appropriate.
The placement also strengthened my organisation, time management and attention to detail through managing applicant information, supporting pre-tenancy checks and maintaining accurate property and key records. I also gained a much stronger practical understanding of the lettings process and how a professional residential agency operates on a day-to-day basis.
Overall, I feel I have become more confident, personable, commercially aware and comfortable working in a fast-paced, client-facing environment.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
One aspect of the culture that particularly stood out to me was how open people were across different teams and sectors of the business. Although my placement was primarily within the Belgravia Lettings team, I was encouraged to learn about the wider business and speak with professionals working in other areas of Knight Frank. People were willing to take time out of their schedules to explain their roles, discuss different areas of the property industry and provide career advice. This made me feel that learning and professional development were genuinely encouraged rather than simply being spoken about.
I also felt that Knight Frank’s values were reflected in the way people worked on a day-to-day basis. There was a strong emphasis on collaboration, building long-term relationships, providing a high standard of service and treating people with respect. I saw this not only in how colleagues interacted with clients, landlords and applicants, but also in how they treated one another internally.
The atmosphere within my team was particularly supportive. I was given responsibility and trusted to complete tasks independently, while always knowing that someone would be available to help if I needed guidance. I appreciated that colleagues were willing to share their experiences and knowledge with me rather than treating me simply as a placement student.
Overall, my experience showed me that Knight Frank’s culture is centred around its people. The combination of professionalism, collaboration, approachability and willingness to share knowledge created an environment where I felt comfortable asking questions, taking on responsibility and developing throughout my placement.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
One of the aspects I enjoyed most was the people. The welcoming atmosphere made a significant difference to my experience, and I appreciated how willing colleagues were to involve me, answer my questions and share both their professional knowledge and personal experiences. This allowed me to build genuine relationships rather than feeling like I was simply there as a placement student.
I particularly enjoyed the client-facing side of lettings, including speaking with applicants, understanding their requirements and eventually conducting viewings myself. Being trusted with greater responsibility as the placement progressed gave me a real sense of development and achievement.
I also really valued the opportunity to learn beyond my immediate role. Being able to speak with professionals from different areas of Knight Frank broadened my understanding of the real estate industry and introduced me to career paths and specialisms that I would like to explore further.
Overall, I enjoyed the placement to a very great extent. It strengthened my interest in pursuing a career within real estate, developed me both professionally and personally, and gave me experiences, relationships and knowledge that I will carry forward throughout my career.

Recommendations & Advice
Would you recommend Knight Frank to a friend?
What advice would you give to others applying to Knight Frank
I would also encourage future interns to be proactive and speak to people outside of their immediate team. Knight Frank covers so many different areas of real estate, and one of the most valuable parts of my experience was being able to learn from professionals across different sectors and understand the different career paths available within the industry.
Finally, be willing to put yourself outside of your comfort zone. Volunteer for tasks, ask to sit in on meetings, take opportunities to meet different teams and show genuine curiosity. The more you put into the placement, the more you will get out of it.
