Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

My day-to-day role involved building, supporting, and maintaining our team’s broad portfolio of tools and products, many of which were consumed by teams across the wider organisation. I was treated as a regular software engineer within the team, contributing to production code, reviewing pull requests, debugging issues, and helping improve the reliability and usability of the services we owned.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I was given a significant amount of responsibility during my internship. I was treated as a full member of the engineering team rather than being limited to isolated intern tasks. I contributed to real tools and products used across the organisation, worked on production code, reviewed pull requests, investigated bugs, and helped support services owned by the team.
I was trusted to pick up meaningful pieces of work, contribute to technical discussions, and take ownership of tasks from development through to review and delivery. While support and guidance were always available when needed, I was encouraged to work independently, make decisions, and learn through hands-on experience.
