Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Worked within systems design and integration for mature aerospace engines. Ensuring in service engines were functional, safe and met design intent.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I had to present strategies and findings to chief engineers for approval along with being responsible for the safety of a batch of replacement parts for an engine

Report writing and presentation skills developed massively and also I'm in the process of completing my yellow belt for lean 6 sigma engineering. I have also become a lot more proactive and independent

I was provided with a grad buddy and a buddy within my team for personal development or work questions. But everyone in my team was willing to support along with my line manager for work queries.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company culture is good, everyone works hard and cares about the quality of the work they produce. Everyone is keen to support one another and learn. Socials are frequent to ensure the team bonds well

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I would have liked to do a more hands on role but in my next rotation I will have the option to do this. The work I did felt meaningful and was very interesting along with stretching me and forcing me to learn skills beyond those taught on my degree

Be yourself and focus on personal development outside of your degree. Being a well rounded person is a more useful place to start than a specialist in academia.
