Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I checked invoices and checked if any items needed to be excluded for an accurate financial report. I shadowed meetings. I created a presentation for the training of future interns as I was the first intern in this team. I helped make datasets on the cost of various engine parts to find ways of reducing maintenance costs and highlighting what areas need to be targeted.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was able to contribute to something meaningful and tangible. I could see exactly why I was doing my work and what it would be used for.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I've had to develop skills in Excel and learn the technical side of engineering and the basics of the function of an aeroplane engine. I've also had to learn how to better design powerpoint slides and display data in an effective manner on them.

I was constantly able to reach out to those on my team and ask questions or schedule meetings, despite it being the most busy time of the year for them.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Everyone was very welcoming and encouraging. Even if I made mistakes or didn't quite understand things at first, they were very patient with me and explained concepts until I understood. If I needed help with anything they were very willing to help and go through extra mile.

I would tell them to go in with a mindset that's ready to learn because there are so many opportunities available, it's just a matter of making the most of your time here. Everyone has been more than willing to spend time and teach you things or show you other parts of the business.
