During my placement, I was given a good level of responsibility and was trusted to support the commercial team with real project work. My duties included analysing labour rates, managing and reviewing commercial data, and assisting with cost reporting and decision-making. This experience allowed me to develop my technical, analytical, and communication skills while gaining valuable insight into quantity surveying and commercial management.

During my placement, I developed both new and existing skills in commercial management and quantity surveying. I improved my Excel and data analysis capabilities through tasks such as labour rate reviews, cost comparisons, and commercial reporting, while also strengthening my communication and problem-solving skills through collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders. The experience increased my commercial awareness and gave me greater confidence in managing responsibilities independently.

Throughout my placement, I received excellent support and guidance from both my team and senior colleagues. They were always available to answer questions, provide advice, and help me develop my understanding of commercial processes and quantity surveying. At the same time, I was encouraged to take ownership of my work, which helped me build confidence and develop my skills while knowing support was available when needed.

The company had a positive and supportive culture, with a welcoming atmosphere that encouraged learning, collaboration, and professional development. Team members were approachable and willing to share their knowledge, making it easy to ask questions and gain guidance when needed. I felt valued as part of the team and enjoyed working in an environment that balanced support with opportunities to take on responsibility and develop my skills.

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and found it to be a valuable and rewarding experience. The role provided a good balance of learning, responsibility, and professional development, allowing me to gain practical experience while contributing to real projects. I particularly enjoyed working with a supportive team, developing my commercial and analytical skills, and gaining a greater understanding of quantity surveying and the construction industry.
