Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

As an MME RSA, I support Relationship Managers with the day-to-day running of mid‑market client relationships by helping progress lending and credit activity, gathering key customer information, and keeping monitoring and risk-related admin on track.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Over the course of the internship, I’ve strengthened a range of existing skills and developed new ones, particularly in how I structure my work, communicate with different audiences, and manage priorities under time pressure. I’ve become more confident turning ambiguous tasks into clear plans, seeking feedback early, and improving outputs through iteration. I’ve also developed stronger stakeholder engagement and collaboration habits, alongside improved analytical thinking and my ability to present information in a clear, practical way. Overall, I’m leaving with greater confidence in my professional judgement, adaptability, and ability to deliver consistently to a high standard.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I received strong support and guidance throughout my internship. My line manager, placement mentor and buddy were approachable and made time for regular check-ins, which gave me clear direction on priorities and expectations, as well as timely feedback to help me improve. I also felt comfortable asking questions as they came up, and I was supported with the right level of guidance to build confidence while still being trusted to take ownership of my work.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The culture felt supportive, professional and genuinely collaborative. People were approachable and willing to share time and expertise, and there was a strong sense that asking questions and learning on the job was encouraged rather than judged. The general atmosphere was inclusive and respectful, with teams working at pace but still making space for wellbeing, development conversations and open communication. Overall, it felt like a place where relationships and teamwork are taken seriously because they directly drive better outcomes.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I enjoyed my internship a lot. It was challenging in a positive way, with meaningful work, clear expectations, and plenty of opportunities to learn quickly and stretch outside my comfort zone. I especially enjoyed the collaborative environment and the chance to engage with different stakeholders, as well as seeing how the work connects to wider business and client outcomes. Overall, it was a motivating experience that reinforced my interest in building a longer-term career at HSBC.
