Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at CBRE Group?

As a graduate surveyor, I have been exposed to a wide range of work and have had the opportunity to learn from experienced colleagues across the business. The working environment is professional and supportive, and I have generally felt encouraged to ask questions, take responsibility and develop my knowledge.
The scale of the organisation also provides good exposure to different clients, properties and areas of the industry.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

I am currently working within the Rating team. While I have had a positive experience, primarily because I was allocated to a very good and supportive team, I did not have any input into my placement and did not know prior how long we would be spending in our rotations. Providing graduates with more information about the available teams and an opportunity to express their preferences would improve the allocation process. Nevertheless, the support and experience offered by my current team have made it rewarding.

To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

4/5
I feel that I have regular opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the team. I am trusted to complete work that supports live projects and client instructions, and my responsibilities have increased as I have gained more experience. Colleagues are very approachable and willing to explain the wider purpose of tasks, which helps me understand how my work contributes to the team’s objectives.

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

3/5
The overall compensation package is reasonable for a graduate role and is supported by a large range of benefits. However, when considering the cost of living in London, I feel there is some scope for the salary and package to be more competitive.
I appreciate that the role offers significant professional development and support towards qualification, which adds long-term value.

How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

4/5
The role is preparing me well for my future career particularly through doing the part time masters and with APC assistance from colleagues. I am gaining practical experience, developing my technical knowledge and improving important professional skills, including communication, organisation, commercial awareness and client management. However, as I have been placed in a more "niche" team I have not had as large a breadth of understanding/experience as I would like.

How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

4/5
My day-to-day role has also helped me improve my report writing, research, analysis, communication, time management and ability to prioritise competing deadlines. Working on live instructions and receiving feedback from experienced colleagues has been particularly beneficial because it allows me to apply some of my masters learning in a practical setting.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?

4/5
The support I have received has been very good overall. My line manager and the wider Rating team have been approachable, supportive and willing to take the time to explain unfamiliar concepts. The support from my buddy and other graduates has also helped me settle into the business.

How is your work-life balance?

5/5
My work-life balance has been excellent. My typical working week allows me to manage my responsibilities effectively while still maintaining sufficient personal time outside work. Expectations around working hours are generally reasonable, and I feel comfortable communicating with the team if I need support with my workload or competing deadlines.

What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

5/5
The organisational culture at CBRE is everything I would want from a job. I have found everyone to be approachable and willing to share their knowledge, which has made it easier to settle into the organisation and develop in my role.
Within the Rating team, there is a supportive atmosphere and a strong sense of collaboration. I feel able to ask questions without judgement, and everyone is involved in both work-related and social activities.

How would you rate CBRE Group initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

5/5
CBRE demonstrates a strong commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility. There is clear communication around these subjects, and a large range of internal initiatives, networks and awareness events.

How would you rate CBRE Group CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?

5/5
CBRE’s approach to corporate social responsibility is very positive. The company provides opportunities for employees to contribute beyond their day-to-day roles through volunteering, community engagement, charitable activities and environmental initiatives.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend CBRE Group to a friend?

Yes

Why?

I would recommend CBRE to a friend because it provides a fun and supportive environment in which to begin a career in property. The graduate programme offers exposure to meaningful work, experienced colleagues and opportunities to develop both technical and professional skills.
I have been particularly pleased with the support and welcoming atmosphere within the Rating team. I have been fortunate to join a very social and welcoming team, which has made the experience positive.

How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?

3/5
The role has matched many of the expectations established during the recruitment process. I expected to work for a large, professional organisation, gain practical experience and receive support towards my long-term career development, and this has been the case.
However, I did not have much visibility or input regarding the specific team I would join. I was allocated to the Rating team without being given the opportunity to express a preference or fully understand the available options. We were initially told during the recruitment process that there would be more than 2 rotations.

When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to CBRE Group?

People should understand the market and recent changes/ongoings within the sector. Get involved with people already in the business and ask questions to understand where you would fit into the company. The key thing when applying for CBRE is to show passion for real estate and show that you have done your research on CBRE which is more important than your previous credentials/education.
