Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at CBRE Group?

As a Graduate Surveyor at CBRE, I have gained valuable experience working across a range of commercial property projects, supporting clients with strategic real estate advice and asset management services. My role has involved assisting with property inspections, valuations, market research, lease analysis, and the preparation of client reports, providing me with a strong understanding of the commercial property sector.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

My responsibilities include undertaking property inspections, carrying out measurement surveys, collecting and analysing property data, preparing reports, and supporting senior colleagues with ongoing projects. I also liaise with clients and other stakeholders, ensuring information is accurately recorded and communicated throughout the projects. The aspect I enjoy most about my role is getting out on site and seeing properties first-hand through inspections and measurement surveys. I enjoy the variety that comes with visiting different buildings and locations, as it allows me to develop a practical understanding of the assets beyond what can be learned from plans or reports.

To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

4/5
My role provides significant opportunities to contribute meaningfully and feel valued within my team. I am trusted with a high level of responsibility and autonomy, allowing me to take ownership of specific projects and manage key aspects of work independently. This includes liaising directly with clients, coordinating project requirements, and ensuring deliverables are completed to a high standard.

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

4/5
My compensation package provides a good overall level of remuneration for my role. While I feel that the base salary could be more competitive when considering the workload and level of responsibility involved, the wider benefits package adds significant value. CBRE offers a strong range of benefits, including private medical cover, a gym benefit, a competitive pension scheme, and bonus opportunities, all of which contribute positively to my overall reward package.

How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

5/5
I feel that my role is preparing me very well for my future career. The experience I am gaining is helping me develop both professionally and personally, particularly in terms of confidence, communication, and professionalism when working with clients and colleagues. The level of responsibility and autonomy I am given has allowed me to build strong project management and client-facing skills, while the variety of work provides valuable exposure to different aspects of the property industry. I am continually developing my technical knowledge through inspections, measurement surveys, and project work, as well as improving my ability to make informed decisions and take initiative.

How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

5/5
I feel that I am continuously developing both new and existing skills through a combination of formal training and my day-to-day responsibilities. The practical experience gained through inspections, measurement surveys, client interactions, and project work allows me to apply and strengthen my technical knowledge in real-world situations.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?

3/5
I receive a good level of support from within the business, particularly from the internal NextGen representatives and wider colleagues, who are approachable and provide guidance when needed. They have been helpful in supporting my development and creating opportunities to connect with others across the organisation. However, I would like more regular support and engagement from my line manager. Due to limited contact, I do not see them as often as I would like, which can make it more difficult to receive consistent feedback, discuss development goals, and seek guidance on ongoing work.

How is your work-life balance?

4/5
Overall, I feel that I have a good work-life balance, and the workload is generally manageable. The role provides a good level of flexibility in terms of managing responsibilities and prioritising tasks, however, I am required to work from the office every day, which can make maintaining that balance more challenging at times, particularly when considering commuting time. While I enjoy being in the office and collaborating with colleagues, having greater flexibility to work remotely on occasion would further improve my work-life balance and wellbeing.

What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

4/5
Overall, I would describe the organisational culture, values, and general atmosphere as positive. CBRE has a collaborative and professional environment, and I have found colleagues to be supportive and approachable. However, from my perspective, there is still room for improvement in relation to gender equality and representation within the business. While progress has been made, there are areas where I feel greater balance and visibility would be beneficial, particularly when looking at certain teams and more senior positions.

How would you rate CBRE Group initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

5/5
I believe CBRE's equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility initiatives are strong, particularly through the employee networks that are available. These networks provide a great opportunity to connect with colleagues from across the business, build relationships, and access support from people with shared experiences and interests.

How would you rate CBRE Group CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?

4/5
I believe CBRE has a strong approach to Corporate Social Responsibility, particularly through its charity initiatives, fundraising activities, and volunteering days. he volunteering days are particularly valuable, as they encourage staff to get involved in meaningful activities outside of their day-to-day roles and make a tangible impact within the community. However, I think there could be a greater push and visibility around these initiatives from senior leadership. Increased involvement and promotion from senior staff would help raise awareness, encourage wider participation, and further embed CSR into the company culture.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend CBRE Group to a friend?

Yes

Why?

CBRE offers excellent opportunities for professional development, exposure to a wide range of projects, and the chance to take on meaningful responsibility early in your career. The company provides a strong benefits package, supportive colleague networks, and a positive working environment that encourages learning and growth. I particularly value the autonomy I have been given in my role, the opportunity to work directly with clients, and the practical experience gained through site inspections and surveys.

How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?

5/5
The role has matched my expectations based on the recruitment process. The responsibilities, level of client interaction, and nature of the work are consistent with what was described when I joined the business.

When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to CBRE Group?

My main advice would be to be personable, approachable, and friendly throughout the recruitment process. CBRE places a strong emphasis on collaboration and client relationships, so demonstrating good communication skills and a genuine interest in working with others is just as important as showcasing your technical abilities. For those joining the business, I would recommend taking every opportunity to meet new people, build relationships across different teams, and get involved in internal networks and initiatives. Being proactive, asking questions, and showing enthusiasm for learning will help you make the most of the opportunities available and settle into the organisation quickly.
