Overall, how would you describe your experience at CBRE Group?
I have thoroughly enjoyed my first year at CBRE as a Graduate Surveyor. I have been warmly welcomed into the Manchester office and have been given a wide range of opportunities to develop both professionally and personally. Through working on a variety of projects and collaborating with colleagues across different teams, I have expanded my technical knowledge, gained valuable practical experience and increased my confidence when dealing with clients and project work. I look forward to continuing my development and taking on greater responsibility as I progress through the graduate programme.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
I support the team in advising clients on the acquisition and disposal of development opportunities. Our team supports clients throughout the entire development lifecycle, which means my work is highly varied and provides exposure to a range of projects and disciplines.
My responsibilities have included undertaking development appraisals, carrying out landowner engagement, and conducting market analysis to assess supply and demand for particular asset classes and locations to inform development strategies. I have also been involved in identifying opportunities and constraints that may affect the viability and success of a development.
The role is very diverse, ranging from report writing and preparing technical ARGUS and development appraisals to attending client meetings and engaging with agents and landowners. This variety has helped me develop both my technical knowledge and my communication skills, while providing valuable experience across different stages of the development process.

Why?
I would recommend CBRE to a friend because of the variety of work, opportunities for development and supportive working environment. During my first year as a Graduate Surveyor, I have gained exposure to a wide range of projects across the development lifecycle, from market analysis and development appraisals to landowner engagement and client presentations. This variety has allowed me to develop both my technical and professional skills.
I have also felt well supported by colleagues across the Manchester office, who have been approachable and willing to share their knowledge and experience. CBRE has provided excellent opportunities for learning, responsibility and career progression, making it a great place to start and develop a career in property.

When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to CBRE Group?
My advice would be to be yourself throughout the recruitment process and demonstrate a genuine interest in both the property industry and CBRE. Research the business and the service lines that interest you, but also be open to learning about areas you may not have previously considered. During onboarding, I would encourage graduates to take advantage of opportunities to meet colleagues across different teams, ask questions and get involved in a variety of projects as early as possible. Building relationships and being proactive has helped me settle in and make the most of my first year.
