Investment Consulting Review

As an Investment Consulting Intern at Aon, I supported consultants and analysts on a variety of client and internal projects. My day-to-day responsibilities included analysing investment manager data, conducting research on investment strategies and funds, assisting with liquidity and cashflow exercises for pension schemes, reviewing investment reports and presentations, and preparing materials for client meetings. I also worked extensively with Excel and PowerPoint to analyse data, update reporting templates, and produce client-facing deliverables. The role involved collaborating with colleagues across different teams, developing my understanding of financial markets and investment products, and ensuring work was completed accurately and to a high professional standard.

s. I was given meaningful responsibility throughout my internship and was trusted to contribute to live client work and wider team projects. I was responsible for completing research and analysis independently, updating client deliverables, preparing investment and market-related materials, and supporting project work that was reviewed and used by consultants. I also managed my own workload, communicated directly with colleagues to clarify requirements, and presented findings as part of group projects. While I received support and guidance when needed, I was encouraged to take ownership of my work and deliver high-quality outputs, which helped me develop both my technical and professional skills.

During my internship at Aon, I significantly developed both my technical and professional skills. I strengthened my Excel capabilities through financial analysis, data validation, and modelling tasks, as well as improving my PowerPoint skills by creating and updating client-facing presentations. I also gained a much stronger understanding of investment consulting, including manager research, pension scheme investment strategies, liquidity analysis, cashflow modelling, and different asset classes. In addition, I developed important professional skills such as stakeholder communication, teamwork, time management, attention to detail, and presenting findings to colleagues. The experience has increased both my technical knowledge and my confidence in working within a professional consulting environment.

I received a high level of support and guidance throughout my internship. From the initial induction and training sessions through to day-to-day project work, colleagues were always approachable and willing to answer questions or provide feedback. I had regular check-ins with my manager and team members, who helped me understand new concepts, review my work, and develop my technical and professional skills. At the same time, I was given the opportunity to work independently and take ownership of tasks, which allowed me to build confidence while knowing support was available whenever needed. The balance between guidance and responsibility created a positive learning environment and enabled me to make the most of the experience.

The culture at Aon was supportive, collaborative and inclusive. Everyone was approachable and willing to help, creating a positive environment where I felt valued and encouraged to develop my skills.
