Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

During my 10 week internship in the FIG team in the corporate bank, I worked across all four subsectors that my team covers, supporting the team on both internal pieces and client work. On a day-to-day basis, I often send out updates of clients' earnings results, or news stories that are relevant to our clients. I also work on creating PowerPoint presentations, and Excel spreadsheets, as well as using internal Citi systems. There is a big emphasis on learning too so many of my days involve a coffee chat, or a 'Teach In' session, where I get educated on the bank.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was given a lot of responsibility. I worked under Analysts, who were always there to proof-read my work and check my progression, but ultimately I was staffed on many things where I could take responsibility for my own work.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Definitely. I have improved my Excel/PowerPoint skills. I have improved my understanding of the subsectors my team covers, and also more broadly how a large bank like Citi works and what each function does.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I received a lot of support and guidance. Our HR Team set up weekly catch-ups, as well as a 'buddy' system which provided me with all the support I needed.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company culture is incredibly welcoming and encouraging as a whole. People are generally very open to taking the time to teach you and help you to understand things.
