Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

As a risk intern within an insurance brokerage this was all about consulting in a strategic manner to insurance clients, be they insurance, reinsurance, or other companies with some involvement in this sector. This included real work on current projects varying in scale and complexity, with work varying from very qualitative aspects to data training and quantitative skill use.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Honestly, quite a lot! particularly in the second half I was creating slides, doing research and data analysis that went straight to the client. This was not an internship of just colouring slides in.

Quite a lot, had a manager who was separate to projects which was quite nice to work on personal development. People in project teams also super helpful as had a lot of questions.

That this role in particularly is poorly advertised as being strategic commercial risk consulting more broadly, but it is specifically insurance related strategies.
Know this for applications. Know insurance industry background, know some office skills particularly excel functions.
