Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I was on the Capital Markets team meaning I sat with FX, Securities and Structured products desks. It involved a lot of longer projects like data centred excel projects, dashboards, and quality of life tasks that helped traders day to day. In a day, I would be given a lot of research tasks too, so finding info, and finding the why behind a lot of market moves.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I would say very limited as without qualifications and training, I cannot help a lot of the traders with the bulk of their tasks. I would say I had more internal responsibility rather than exterior. I worked alo9t with other teams, and was trusted to deliver projects that would be delivered internally.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Trying to have a lot more attention to detail. Learned a lot of excel functions and how to use most effectivley. Mainly knowledge manifested in understanding the market, how things interact, and how and why certain events impact specific areas.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I would say very sufficient. We had multiple catch ups with our recruiter/HR person which was really helpful as it was nice just to catch up with everything that was going on and how we were doing.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Very nice. All employees and even grads mentioned that Citi had very nice culture and it was easily seen. Everyone seemed positive and there was no single person who seemed to have bad intentions or made you feel worried or anxious at all.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

Loved it. First glimpse into finance world was really fun and enjoyable. Gave me lots of insights I hope to come back here with, but generally has really set me up for my future career.

What advice would you give to others applying to Citi

Be yourself and try to be a little different. I think all the people who got here all had really interesting hobbies or experiances and if its reflected in your CV you do stand out.
