Overall, how would you describe your experience at Arup?
Lovely team, interesting work, very good work/life balance.
Often boring however due to a lack of work. Career and salary progression also feel as though they will be quite slow.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
It's a consultancy position, so as a graduate you are effectively the junior engineering resource. This often constitutes a lot of data analysis, research and drafting of reports and conclusions. Also some programming. Effectively anything time consuming. I enjoy the technical work the most, and the data work is rewarding if slow during the activity. You have to rapidly learn about new areas and industries and acclimatise to new concepts and projects quickly. I will often be working on 3-5 projects simultaneously which makes for a more interesting but difficult time.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

Often under-resourced, and not every project really needs junior input (for example, highly specialist roles requiring extensive experience).
However, when you get on a good project, you are trusted and depended on to deliver excellent work that meaningfully contributes to the project.

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

Salary is not excellent, but the perks are nice and the work/life balance is so good I think it is fair.

How is your work-life balance?

I never have to do overtime, unless there is a project need and then it is still not compulsory and is often paid at a higher rate.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

My team is lively, sociable and supportive. The company as a whole is a large corporation, but is interested in employee wellbeing. There are provisions for all needs and concerns. The company does seem to think it is fantastic, which does lend itself to arrogance sometimes.
How would you rate Arup initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

How would you rate Arup CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?

They try very hard, and have left the oil/gas industry for example. But they design and build data centres now, so the requirement to have work does dominate often at the expense of what the right thing to do is. I would say they are very good compared to other corporations.

Would you recommend Arup to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Excellent and secure job. I personally find it slow often but I am happy enough that I will stay until I find something that will definitely be better/more tailored to my long term ambitions.

When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Arup?
They do reply eventually! It took 6 months but they got back to me. Also they didn't say, but the online assessment day is the final stage.
