Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
As a software engineer, I was placed into a team (FinCrime) and worked on two main projects during my internship. The first was a project in Investigations Tooling, directly related to the FinCrime team and the second was an AI-Enabled project that all the interns are involved in.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Majority of my work was completed independently. Help was available when required but much of the responsibility was placed on the interns.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
A lot of skills weree developed during the internship, whether that be soft skills, through general training courses, learning about how to communicate and network with people in a profession setting, as well as more technical skills developed in the role whilst working on specific projects.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
A lot of supporrt was provided, but only when actually needed. Communicating with both the emerging talent team, and other employees in the software engineering teams was easy to do when required. The onus is placed on the intern to ask for help, a structure that I really appreciated.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
The internship was really enjoyable, with interns being given the opportunity to work on actual projects used by the company. It provided good experience of what working at HSBC is like, and I would definitely come back if given the opportunity. My only issue was in terms of the onboarding process, with the friction in getting the persmissions required to do work, causing some delays. This is understandable though, with the security risks involved when working in a bank.
