Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I started my placement role in the Leadership & Delivery team where I worked on various things like designing and creating intranet pages to promote our leadership programmes internally, I coordinated all in person events that we hosted for each programme. I supported the design of a new workshop for a new programme, I also facilitated part of these workshops. For the remaining 6 months of my placement, I was in the Performance team where I worked on a couple of long term projects including a Quality Assurance project and some organising and coordination for filming. I also supported in creating communications to send out to all colleagues.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, there were many projects that I was given the opportunity to lead on as well as other projects that I didn't lead on but played a major supporting role.

I received a lot of support and guidance the whole way through my placement from my line managers, my team, my wider team, the early careers team and my placement cohort.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The culture was very united, inclusive and diverse. This is extremely important for people from diverse backgrounds, such as myself, so this made me feel very welcome and comfortable. The atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming - absolutely no judgement from anyone at all so there was never any fear to ask people questions or make suggestions. There are also multiple societies and networks within the company to join in your spare time.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and would encourage anyone looking for a placement opportunity to apply to Nationwide. The experience exceeded any expectations I had and created so many opportunities I didn't even dream of experiencing at this age, with my level of experience.
