Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
During my Industrial Placement, I have worked as a Power BI Developer and Administrator, supporting both business-as-usual operations and project-based initiatives across the organisation. My role involves developing, maintaining, and governing business intelligence solutions that help colleagues make informed decisions using data.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, I was given a significant amount of responsibility throughout my placement. From an early stage, I managed business-as-usual activities independently, including handling Power BI service requests, workspace administration, access reviews, and governance processes. I also took ownership of developing and maintaining several reporting solutions, working directly with stakeholders to gather requirements, troubleshoot issues, and deliver improvements.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I developed my technical skills in Power BI, DAX, Power Query, Power Automate and data modelling through working on real business problems. Beyond the technical side, I developed stronger communication, documentation, and time management skills through collaborating with colleagues across different teams, presenting my work, and balancing project work alongside day-to-day responsibilities.

I received a good level of support and guidance throughout my placement. My manager and team were always approachable and willing to help when I had questions, particularly when I was learning new systems, processes, or technical concepts.
