Manufacturing Engineering Intern Review

I was a manufacturing engineer working on site everyday. My main roles involved looking at general reworks with parts, managing different projects and working with other parts of the business such as quality or maintenance.

There is a learning curve at the beginning, but once you become familiar with the processes, you are entrusted with a high level of responsibility. When managing projects, I was responsible for meeting deadlines, ensuring the accuracy of calculations, preparing CAPEX proposals, and using my engineering skills to assess damaged parts and do the correct rework.

I have learned a lot more about project management and general manufacturing skills. I have also build on my CAD skills and learned a lot more about general materials and processes.

Whenever I needed help or came across something new that I wanted to learn more about, my team were always willing to support me. My line manager was incredibly helpful, and when he was busy or tied up in meetings, I could rely on the wider team for guidance. They were always happy to answer questions and share their knowledge. Even when I was interested in learning about different areas of the business, my colleagues were more than willing to show me around and explain how everything worked.

In general, the atmosphere in the office was great. Although there were occasional communication issues across the company, the environment was very welcoming, and the company always seemed committed to investing in and supporting its employees.

I enjoyed my placement even more because it felt like the work I was doing was making a real impact. I was heavily involved in a variety of processes, and seeing the practical application of concepts I had studied at university made me value the experience even more.
