Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Our team handles quality oversight for external supplier manufacturers. However my role as an intern focused much more on digital projects that would support the our team's 2030 targets. My main project was specifically targeted the team's sustainability and agent implementation goals.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes. You are required to drive your project on your own and make the most out of your time there. That being said, there is a lot of support should you need it.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Significantly improved my powerpoint and presentation skills. Also developed my understanding of how AI is used and pushed within a large organisation. I also developed my broader communication skills within the workplace through conversations in the workplace.

Plenty of support and guidance from my manager who was absolutely amazing. People are easy to reach out to and will go out of their way to support you!

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Very positive. Strong emphasis on creating a supportive work environment which I truly felt. Allowed me to settle in very quickly.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

Was an amazing experience to be immersed in a truly fascinating industry. The people and culture meant I felt comfortable at work very quickly. This allowed me to thrive in my work, and I also really enjoyed speaking to people people outside of my department to get a broader understanding of how the organisation/industry functions.

What advice would you give to others applying to AstraZeneca

Be honest about yourself and your interests. AstraZeneca seem to do a great job of putting you in a team based on what your actual experiences and personality is like. So you don't need to have the craziest CV, just be honest and confident about what you have done, and relax (if you can) and be true to yourself in later stages of the application process and you'll do great!
