Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

During my internship, I worked within the Wealth at Work team, supporting financial planning, lending-related tasks, client administration and team projects. On a day-to-day basis, this involved helping with Voyant financial plans, updating trackers, reviewing client information, drafting communications, and learning how different areas of Citi Wealth work together to support clients. I also spent time speaking with colleagues across Wealth Planning, Private Banking, Family Office and Lending to build a broader understanding of the business.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I was given a good level of responsibility. I supported live team processes, including client planning work, overdue interest reviews and tracker updates. I was also trusted to take ownership of wider initiatives, such as working on a Voyant training guide for future interns and analysts, helping with a process pain points tracker, and hosting the daily sales call. My work was reviewed where appropriate, but I was encouraged to take initiative and produce first drafts independently.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I have built my technical understanding of Wealth Management, particularly through using Voyant for financial planning, supporting lending-related processes, and learning more about products such as structured notes, investments and estate planning.
I have also developed my communication and presentation skills through drafting client and internal communications, hosting the daily sales call, and preparing my end-of-internship presentation. This has helped me become more confident in explaining complex topics clearly. In addition, I have improved my organisation and attention to detail by working on trackers, client planning tasks and a Voyant training guide for future interns and analysts. These tasks have helped me become more structured in how I approach work and more comfortable taking ownership of deliverables.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I received a strong level of support and guidance throughout my internship. HR provided regular catch-ups, networking events and opportunities to connect with other interns, which helped me feel supported throughout the programme. I was also paired with a buddy, which was useful for asking questions and understanding how to navigate the internship. Within my team, I received guidance from colleagues on day-to-day tasks, technical processes and wider projects. The team was approachable and willing to explain things, while also giving me opportunities to take ownership and learn by doing. I also found support from other interns valuable, as we were able to share experiences and help each other throughout the placement.

The company culture and general atmosphere felt very positive and supportive.
There was a good balance between being given meaningful work and being encouraged to maintain a healthy work-life balance. The atmosphere felt collaborative and inclusive, with a strong focus on diversity and making interns feel part of the wider organisation. I found people across the team and business to be approachable, willing to share their experiences and open to helping me learn. Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Citi to a friend?

Yes

What advice would you give to others applying to Citi

My advice would be to be proactive, visible and open to learning from everyone around you. Make the most of networking opportunities, speak to people across different teams, and do not be afraid to ask questions. Asking questions is one of the best ways to learn, and people are usually very willing to help if you show genuine interest.
I would also encourage others to utilise their team, buddy, HR contacts and wider intern network. These relationships can really help you settle in, understand the business better and make the most of the internship. Finally, take initiative where you can. Volunteer for tasks, put yourself forward for opportunities and try to add value beyond what is directly asked of you. Being proactive and visible makes a real difference.
