Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I'm still in the middle of my internship, but my role is assisting the analysts/associates in my team with a wide range of tasks, from transactions to projects to ad hoc tasks. I've really enjoyed the vast variety of workstreams given and the work has been increasing in technicality/skill since I have started, which I really appreciate - I believe in learning by doing.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I would say that throughout my internship, the difficulty of work as well as the workload has ramped up over time, in terms of the transactions or projects that I have been staffed on. I really appreciate this as it allows me to gain a good understanding of what the work will be like if returning full-time.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Yes I have learnt many skills, including but not limited to: Microsoft Excel and PPT whiz, financial and credit analysis, debt and liquidity modelling, FactSet, spreading comps and understanding financial jargon/documentation way faster, communication and time management, organisation, priority-balancing, etc.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I received a lot of support/guidance - my analysts/associates were always happy to explain the deals that I was helping out with, or explained clearly in any instructions that they gave me. I was also able to get a lot of sound advice from them regarding my career or just life at Citi from various different coffee chats.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

For the company culture, I will refer to my team's culture because I spent the most time with them. Very friendly and open-minded, everyone is there to help each other and they all had unique personalities as well, it was also a very diverse group of individuals which allowed for multiple different perspectives. They were very welcoming and helped me settle into my internship very quickly.
