Marketing Intern Review

On rotation around the marketing department allowed me to gain a breadth of understanding of the different channels, how they work on an individual level as well as together. I spent time in the ATL, SEO, Campaign Planning, Paid Social and PR and Organic social team. My favourite rotation was on the organic social team where I managed the social media channels including Instagram and Facebook.

I was given lots of responsibility throughout the year and my rotations. My work was taken seriously and often contributed to shaping strategy. My greatest responsibilty was managing the social media channels where the posts I scheduled accumulated a reach of 3 million on a weekly basis.

I have learnt many technical and digital skills and well as key transferable skills such as time management, organisation, research skills, presentation skills and commercial awareness. These will help me throughout the rest of my time at University as well as in the workplace once I graduate.

In every team I received lots of support, I always felt like I could ask for help, no question was a silly question! I never felt pressured or uncomfortable with the level of work I was producing and I was encouraged to contribute in discussions where my opinions were valued. I was also given time to work on skills for example taking online courses for a few hours a week.

The company culture was inclusive and welcoming. I felt like I could approach anybody no matter what their title or level or authority was. The office was enjoyable and I made some great friendships. Whilst WFH I still felt connected to the team with frequent teams meetings and messages.

I had a great time on my placement year and made some amazing memories and friendships. The work experience gained has been invaluable and I feel way more prepared going into the industry again once I graduate.
