Intern Review

As an intern I worked in the Energy, Infrastructure, Projects and Asset Finance team and I had the opportunity to undertake many of the tasks typically assigned to trainees. This included legal research, completing due diligence checklists, attending meetings, and reviewing finance documents and agreements

There was a degree of responsibility for the work I produced, ensuring that it was accurate and presented in a professional format suitable for lawyers/ clients. I was also given the opportunity to request specific tasks that interested me.

I developed my analytical skills through different tasks such as reviewing CTAs and proofreading documents for undefined terms and typos. I also improved my organisational skills by managing multiple tasks at once and making sure they were completed on time. Through working closely with trainees, associates and partners, both within my team and across the wider firm, I have honed my interpersonal skills and ability to network in a professional environment.

I received a great deal of support and guidance throughout my internship. The firm's culture is very welcoming and, from the outset, I was encouraged to ask questions and look beyond the immediate task to understand the bigger picture. This helped me deepen my knowledge of both the renewables industry and project finance. The team (particularly my supervisors) also provided valuable advice and support in preparation for my assessment centre. Beyond the support from my team, HR was always helpful and responsive whenever I had questions about the internship process.

The company culture was welcoming and inviting. Despite busy schedules, people make time to help you, have chats about their work and really make you feel part of the firm.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my internship at CMS. It was a great experience and confirmed that it is the kind of firm I would like to build my career with. The internship helped me grow both professionally and personally, and has given me a strong foundation to develop into a confident and competent commercial solicitor.
