Intern Review

I was an intern within the firm. My role consisted of aiding the rest of my team with any tasks that were suitable to my level of experience. I was involved in conducting research in advance of internal meetings, fact-checking in advance of a meeting with a client and aiding in the creation of an article. I also attended firm-wide training sessions on both new legal tech tools and on industry updates. I scheduled coffee chats with various members of the firm to discuss their work and pathway into the firm.

I felt as thought I was given responsibility during my internship to complete internal work for the firm and to aid the completion of work for clients. However, I was completely supported by the team around me who were always available for me to ask questions, give feedback and thoroughly check over my work.

I have developed my interpersonal skills in being to build professional relationships within the workplace, though scheduling productive chats with members of the firm.
I have developed my written communication skills, ensuring conciseness and clarity when producing written work for colleagues.
I have developed further my time management skills, balancing multiple tasks, while not neglecting the quality of my output.
I have developed my teamwork skills, collaborating with members of my team on tasks to produce a final output together.
I have developed my innovation further by engaging with the legal tech team to see how I can improve the quality and efficiency of repeated tasks.

Significant support. My team ensured that they were readily available either in person or on Teams at all points of the day for me to ask any questions. My trainee mentor took me to lunch every day with him for the first week, which helped me settle in. The rest of my team have also taken my to lunches and scheduled coffee chats to help me acclimatise to the new environment. The Emerging Talent Team also scheduled weekly calls with the interns to check on our progress and experience with the firm.

Everyone is extremely generous with their time in aiding other individuals learning and development. Everyone that I have interacted with has been extremely welcoming and helped me settle into the firm. I have also participated in firmwide events such as the EmbRACE network which speaks to a firm culture that prioritises diversity and inclusion. I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience with the firm.

I have loved my time at CMS. It has been a fantastic learning opportunity for me and I have truly immersed myself within the firm. Everyone was extremely friendly, welcoming and committed to ensuring that I made the most of the experience which I am extremely grateful for.
