Participant Review

The first day of the programme consisted of an introductory talk from Sheldon Mills. Next was a chance to speak to graduates at the FCA, who kindly fielded our questions and gave us their experiences.
We then prepared for the assessment centre that came the following day, comprising of a written exercise, interview and briefing exercise.
To finish, we were given several skill-based sessions from expert professionals, relating to general employability and self-management.

I was aware of the FCA beforehand but cannot say I knew everything about what they did and the workplace culture. I now know what it takes to be a successful candidate and valuable colleague, but also what holding the position as the chief financial regulator entails.
The breadth of work that the FCA deals with is very impressive and frankly fascinating.

I have certainly developed my interpersonal skills by spending time with people I had not met prior.
My experience with Assessment Centres has been enhanced, I am now more familiar with the type of activities I may be expected to take part in.
We took part in sessions around employability which have helped me develop my personal brand.

The company culture is influenced by JEDS, a four-part framework listing key areas that a successful candidate/staff member must be strong in.
The focus on diversity was very empowering, the FCA team showed great attention to detail and a genuine drive to achieve the objectives of the programme.

I enjoyed the general feeling of inclusiveness. There was never a moment where I felt I had to listen without being given the opportunity to ask questions and clarify things. We were all on the same page throughout the programme and each team member was willing to participate as best they could.
The assessment centre was challenging but interesting. I was familiar with the structure of the written exercise but still felt pushed intellectually.
