Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I was an Engineering Intern. We had two projects, being a group project and an individual project. On a daily basis, I worked with my scrum team of interns, with a Scrum Master directing us, and worked on my individual project as well.
I convened with my Graduate Buddy weekly.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

We were given limited responsibility, but that is to be expected for such an important company when we're interns.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Yes. The primary skills I learnt were networking skills. I also developed my technical skills, particularly with GitLab and CI/CD pipelines.

I received plenty of support and guidance from my Graduate Buddy, Scrum Master, and Programme Experience Consultant, though I know that this was not the case for some other interns.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company culture and atmosphere are very relaxed, and everyone here has been extremely kind to me and willing to chat despite their important jobs, which is lovely.

What advice would you give to others applying to NatWest Group

Focus on soft skills first. They talk a lot about hiring for soft skills and then training the technical skills, so if you have good soft skills, such as presenting, communication, and listening, and you will do well in the assessment centre. Take advantage of the opportunity to meet people, most people are very willing to chat.
