Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Working within a scrum team with other interns on a project we were allocated. Using AI tools such as Kiro IDE, Copilot and in-house AI solutions to aid the development process. Completing an individual research project which will be presented at the end of the internship.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was able to contribute towards a project that may actually be used within NatWest, so it felt like I was given responsibility, whilst not having pressure as the learning was encouraged more than having a perfect product as we are interns.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

We were given many points of contacts to go to for support throughout the internship, and were placed into helpful teams with project leads, scrum masters, and detailed documentation on the project we are undertaking. There is also many resources on the company intranet, such as a learning academy filled with courses on most areas you would want to develop in.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company culture is very friendly and inclusive, help is provided where needed and networking events and socials are encouraged. The general atmosphere is professional but still casual with areas to socialise such as ping pong, chess, darts etc. We are also given 3 mandatory CSR days a year, one of which I was able to partake in during the 8 week internship.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I enjoyed it as I got to meet a lot of new people, take part in a real-world project, and develop skills such as research, software engineering and Agile development. There are learning resources available and you are encouraged to engage with what you want to learn rather than just what you are best with.
