Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

As an Engineering Intern Trainee, my role involved supporting the engineering team with a range of technical and operational activities. This included assisting with project work, analysing data, preparing technical documentation, attending team meetings, and helping to solve engineering-related problems. The placement provided exposure to real-world engineering processes and allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge from my studies in a professional environment.
On a day-to-day basis, I collaborated with team members on ongoing projects, monitored progress against objectives, updated reports and documentation, carried out research and analysis, and participated in discussions to understand project requirements and engineering solutions. I also had the opportunity to learn about industry standards, workplace practices, and project management approaches.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I was given a significant level of responsibility during my internship. While I worked under the guidance of experienced engineers and managers, I was trusted to complete assigned tasks independently, contribute ideas during team discussions, and take ownership of specific pieces of work. This responsibility helped me develop my technical skills, time-management abilities, and confidence in a professional setting.
The experience allowed me to make meaningful contributions to projects while learning how engineering teams operate in a real business environment.
