Service Manager Review

During my placement year, I worked as a Service Manager on one of Computacenter’s largest accounts. My role varied across supporting the wider team, managing stakeholder relationships, contributing to commercial management activities and driving service improvement initiatives. On a day-to-day basis, I worked with large data sets in Excel, Power BI and Power Query to improve reporting and provide insights for both internal teams and customers. I supported governance activities while also contributing to process improvements and automation projects. The role involved regular collaboration with colleagues across multiple teams, as well as direct customer engagement, helping me develop my technical, analytical and communication skills throughout the year.

Yes, I was given a high level of responsibility throughout my placement, taking ownership of key reporting, governance and service improvement activities while regularly engaging with customers and senior stakeholders.

Yes, I developed a range of new skills throughout my placement, particularly in data analysis, stakeholder management, teamwork, presenting, customer engagement and service management, while also improving my commercial awareness, communication, confidence and problem-solving abilities.

I received a high level of support throughout my placement, with regular guidance from my manager and colleagues while still being trusted to take ownership of my own work and development.

The company culture and general atmosphere were excellent. Everyone was welcoming, supportive and willing to help, creating an environment where I felt valued, trusted and encouraged to take on new challenges and develop throughout the year.

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement year and genuinely could not have asked for a better experience. The role gave me the opportunity to take on real responsibility, work with great people, develop professionally and personally, and make a meaningful contribution to the business.
