Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Latham & Watkins?

Excellent. There is no other law firm I would choose to begin my legal career at.
Latham, like every other city firm, is a busy and demanding place to work - but this is an attribute of the line of work we do, not the firm. Busyness notwithstanding, the quality of lawyers are excellent, the training is thorough and deliberate, and it feels like people are working to give me exposure that will make me an excellent lawyer, at the cost of their time.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

I like the ability to take responsiblity and lead workstreams, not needing supervisor intervention unless critical, and following through to get the job done. I appreciate specifically when I can engage my brain, specifically in transactional practices, which is increasingly more possible and a bigger part of the role in a post-AI world.

To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

4/5
While sometimes feedback can be minimal and recognition may no be what you expect, I still do contribute meaningfully.

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

5/5
No complaints as it's among the top in the market and that's all I can ask for.

How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

5/5
Great

How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?

5/5
Strong training across the board and the structured training + free reign in deals makes for a great lawyer.

How is your work-life balance?

2/5
Work life balance and transactional law do not go well together - but this is the choice you make when you choose the various benefits of this line of work.

What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

4/5
Strong culture generally, some bad experiences are stray incidents and do not depict the firm's strong culture.

How would you rate Latham & Watkins initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

5/5
Feel very included and settled in as an international student.

How would you rate Latham & Watkins CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?

5/5
Great in my opinon.

Recommendations & Advice

It's the best place I cold choose to start my career. Excellent work, strong training, good people.

How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?

5/5

When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Latham & Watkins?

Prioritise genuine-ness and building a cohesive life story, rather than trying to say what you think a recruiter wants to hear based on sample applications you have seen.
